This section is designed to give descriptions and photographs of some of the products manufactured by the Harry M. Fraser Co.

Machine's & Parts  

Fraser Model 500-1 Cloth Cutting Machine - slits material for hooked rugs. This is a table-top clamp-on machine. An outstanding feature of the Fraser is it's versatility in cutting strips for hooked, braided, or woven rugs by changing the cutter head and moving the adjustable cloth guides position. One cutter head of choice is included with this machine.  Weight approximately 5 pounds.

Bliss Model A Cloth Cutting Machine- attractive, safe, and portable. The Bliss has no exposed gears to crush careless fingers. A child can operate without danger. The adjustable tension screw permits cutting of any thickness of material. No clamping to a table or bench is necessary. Protected base (suction cups) will not mar fine finishes. The Model A cuts strips up to 1/4 inch wide for hooked rugs only. One cutter head of choice is included with this machine.

Weight approximately 5 pounds.

A wrench is included with each machine to ease changing of cutter heads.

Suction Cup Feet-for use with the Bliss Model A. Machine comes with 4 feet, and replacement feet are available

Cutter Heads can be used on both Model 500-1 and Bliss Model A

Fraser #2 Cutter Head- cuts 6 strips 2/32" wide. Useful for fine detailed hooking (eyes, etc...)

Fraser #3 Cutter Head- cuts 6 strips 3/32" wide. Useful for shading flowers and realistic detail.

Fraser #4 Cutter Head- cuts 4 strips 4/32" wide. Useful for shading flowers and realistic detail.

Fraser #5 Cutter Head- cuts 3 strips 5/32" wide. Useful for slight shading and border-line primitives. Allows some detail while enabling faster hooking.

Fraser #6 Cutter Head- cuts 3 strips 6/32" wide. Useful for primitive hooking.

Fraser #7 Cutter Head- cuts 2 strips 7/32" wide. Useful for primitive hooking.

Fraser #8 Cutter Head- cuts 2 strips 8/32" wide. Useful for primitive hooking. Note: can be used with a rubber ring to help feed material, but the rubber ring is not standard as on special cutter heads (see below) and can be added by requesting a Special #8 Cutter Head.

Special Cutter Heads

For use only with Fraser Model 500-1. Equipped with rubber rings to help feed material. Some photos do not show rubber rings but they are standard on all special cutter heads.

Fraser Special #1 Cutter Head- cuts 1 strip 1/2" to 2" wide as determined by adjusting the cloth guide. Useful for cutting strips for Braiding or for Weaving

Fraser Special # 8.5 Cutter Head- cuts 2 strips 10/32" wide. Useful for primitive hooking. Note: please ignore stone in photo as it was used to aid in photography. It is not included.

Fraser Special #9 Cutter Head- cuts 2 strips 3/8" wide. Useful for primitive hooking.

Fraser Special #10 Cutter Head- cuts 2 strips 1/2" wide. Useful for primitive hooking as well as cutting strips for weaving.

Cutter Head Case- holds 4 cutter heads and has felt pads in each divider to cushion cutter head while in storage.

Note: Cutter Heads can be sent in to be reground. We recommend regrinding only once.

  • Pencil Hook (3 1/4")- holds #5, #7, #9
  • Long Pencil Hook (4 3/4")- available is sizes 2,3,4,6,8, & 10.

  • #2 - for primitives
  • #3 - for use with strips cut on #4,5, or 6 cutter head
  • #4 - medium strips 1/8" wide
  • #5 - medium or fine strips
  • #6 - medium or fine strips 3/32" to 1/8" wide
  • #7 - for fine strips
  • #8 - for fine strips 2/32" or 3/32" wide
  • #9 - for fine or very fine strips
  • #10 - for fine strips 2/32" or 3/32" wide

Note: not all hooks are available in each handle style, but if possible we will try to accommodate you.

Magnet Stick Pin- for pinning into rug backing to hold shears while hooking.

Dorr Potpourri Swatches - Wool swatches available in many colors.  Each swatch contains 6 different shades, 3" x 12"
Cox Braid Clamp - Clamps to table to hold braid while braiding.  Aluminum construction
Braidkin Lacer - This is used for lacing braided rugs.
Braid Aids - Used for wool strips up to 1 3/4" (set of 3)
Vari-Folders - Used for strips up to 2 !/2" (set of 3)
Thumb Tacks - 1/2" long, box of 50.  Nickel plated.
T-Pins - ! 1/2" long, box of 100.
Nyltex (Left) - Wax nylon lacing thread, 1/2 lb spool. (Brown or White)

LoxRite (Right) - Cotton lacing thread which can be spliced,  !/2 lb spool.  (Tan, Dark Brown, or Black)

Shears - with offset handles (each sold separately).  From left to right:
  • 5 1/2" nickel plated, no bevel.
  • 5 1/2" stainless steel, no bevel. (good for primitive hooking).
  • 5" beveled point, nickel plated (good for fine hooking).
Pro-Chem Dye (top left) - 1 oz jars, assorted colors (please specify)

Cushing Perfection Dyes (top right) - 1/3 oz packages, assorted colors (please specify)

Dye Spoon (bottom) - 1/4 & 1/32 tsp or 1/64 & 1/128 tsp

Wetter Than Wet - 8oz bottle, for wetting wool before dyeing.
Tweezers - for removing unwanted hooking easily.  1 7/8" long, stainless steel.  In plastic case or snap-in hanger
Susan Burr Shuttle Hook - Shuttle hook for wool material or yarn.
Craftsman's Rug Needle - for punch hooking with yarn.  Two size needles included for medium or heavy yarn.
Curved Needles - used for whipping the edges of hooked rugs with yarn.

Sulky Iron-on Transfer Pen - for putting designs on backings.

Rug Backing  
Angus Burlap-Available in 48 inch width. Good for hooking with wider strips (4 through 8 cutter head).
All-purpose Scotch Burlap- Available in 60 inch width. Good for hooking with both narrow and wide strips.
Scotch Burlap- Available in widths of 40 inches, 48 inches, and 60 inches. Good for #'s 3, 4, & 5 cutter heads.
Monk's Cloth- Available in widths of 72 inches, and 144 inches. Fine quality cotton, natural color, for fine or primitive hooking and other types of needlework (i.e. punch hooking, etc...).
Warp Cloth- Available in 55 inch width. Good for #'s 3, 4, 5, and 6 cutter head.

Keepsake Rug Patterns-Harry M. Fraser Co.: by Helen Manson, Grace Fraser, & Jeanette Szatkowski. This is the complete Fraser pattern catalog in addition to a supplemental section containing all Pat Hornafius patterns. Catalog has 103 pages of patterns of all varieties (i.e. Primitives, Traditionals, Geometrics, etc...). . This is now available in combination with Karlkraft and Heritage Hill patterns . Price is $8.00.

Flowers have long been a favorite subject for rug hooking, but their complexities can be intimidating. Shading Flowers introduces the materials and methods necessary for rug hookers of all experience levels to create vibrant flowers. These detailed techniques can be adapted to any pattern
Recipes From the Dye Kitchen- By Maryanne Lincoln. Contains dozens of dye formulas you can refer to easily while at your dye pot. It's tips can help both new and experienced dyers, and it's full-color photographs of hooked rugs will instruct as well as delight.
